Oh Algebra! : A Written Report

For our group, I could say that we have done the tasks pretty well. For the first day which was February 3, 2014, we conducted an amazing race type of game. We had 7 stations, the last station being the pit stop, because our group had 7 members. Each station had a unique game and the winner of the game would be the one with the highest score and the fastest. In my station, I decided to hold a game where one member would solve an algebraic equation and the other members would be dancing to a certain tune. There was no time limit and so the catch would be that if they couldn't solve the problem, they cannot proceed to another station. At the end of the race, the tabulated scores showed that the Computers group won.

For the next meeting, we presented our debate and the video. The video was recorded on a Monday of that same week. I was the camera person at that time and Marielle, Karen and Zam were assigned to edit the video. There were some difficulties experienced due to some constraints but they managed to get it through and compile a funny and sensible video which I could say that everyone enjoyed. For the debate, I belonged to the government side and I was the whip speaker. It was kinda fun I guess and interesting because I am not really fond of joining debates but this time, it was cool. The debate was about which approach (operational or conceptual approach) to use in highschool and college levels of education. Majority of the audience favored the conceptual approach because I really don't know :)) maybe they wanted a new point of view for a change however, personally, I believe these two should be balanced because neither could stand on its own. It would be too complicated for students to internalize Algebra without either one.

In the video, the summary is that Zeul needed money to pay for his tuition and he was helped by Doris (Nykka) and Kuya Kim (Zam). They helped him loan from the bank to start his soap business. They also promoted the soap through advertising it by yours truly. Then, Maye reported about people using this soap (Kalapati whitening soap) and people gave positive feedbacks. So, his business was a success and he was able to pay the loaned amount and everybody was happy. The audience were entertained and we were relieved and happy because the hard work paid off.

Lastly, we had an indoor game of pass the message where an equation will be passed and the last person would give the answer to us. for this game, Geometry group won.

This was a great experience for all of us and our group managed to build a great team and develop good teamwork skills. We all hope that everybody had an additional knowledge and an extended appreciation towards algebra.
