Finally, Computers: A Written Report

After four groups have reported on our Math 1 class, finally it was our turn. It was a hard time for me and my group mates to conceptualize such a broad topic ‘computers’. After brainstorming for possible activities and video presentation concept, we have come up to the idea to incorporate various aspects on computers. The fact that we live in the modern era where computers and technology have rapidly dominated the society had made our group planning easier.
We have established various types of games that had been played by the four groups. The games were both enjoyable as well as informative. My station handled the ‘icon’ game that had challenged the familiarity of my classmates to different logos on internet sites and computer programs. Typing game was also played to test their skills when it comes to agility. In order to be more informative, we have assigned 2 stations wherein trivia on history and parts of the computer were featured. ‘Unblock’ me game was also on one station to test the logic of the students as well as to make the whole activity more fun and interactive. The systems of scoring were different for each station since the varieties of the games were unique from each other. Group mate Claire Jacinto was assigned for tallying the scores as well as posting it here on the blog. Algebra ended first place.
The next meeting featured our debate. The stand was “This house believes that illegal downloaders should be punished.” Kissel Cablayda, Klimpol Maganaka and yours truly were on the government side. Our point was basically on the economy and business side of the music and movie industries that are affected negatively by the availability of illegal downloads of their products on the internet. We have also reiterated that this would greatly affect the economy of the country in a broad basis. Ruth Nasibog, Claire Jacinto and Ivy Doringuez composed the opposition. They have stood for the benefits of the individual consumers in such a way that music album and movie copies can be cheaper and more accessible. However, almost everybody voted for the opposition (even I as an individual) since it is undeniable in today’s world that one has to really utilize what’s new on technology.
It was my first time to conceptualize a short movie presentation. I don’t even know how to make some interesting plot twists but I tried my best. The video presentation stated the relevance of computers as it was depicted in a school scene wherein the course was on computer and various personalities of students were shown. The use of softwares in various fields was featured in the movie. I have included the BLAST software or DNA analysis software since we’re biology majors. There were also funny parts on the movie to make it not boring.

I was overwhelmed that our turn for class reporting was a success. This was made possible by our joint efforts and guidance of Ma’am Blasing.
