Rock, Paper,
Scissors is a book written by Len Fisher. This book basically talks about game
theory and practical applications of it. As a neophyte reader of a book
regarding game theory, it was somehow hard to have a full grasp of the idea
right away. The real-life examples or scenarios given by the author greatly
helped.
The first chapter briefly discussed
about the Prisoner’s dilemma. It showed how the policemen or the judiciary
system plays their “game”. In the second chapter of the book, he discussed
about the principle of minimax and fair division. In the next chapter, he discussed
about the seven deadly dilemmas which are interesting problems in game theory.
The fourth chapter is the most interesting
chapter. It discussed about the most played game, Rock-Paper-Scissors. I agree
that there are truly no techniques in winning such a game. There are no
strategies which we can learn in which one player can dominate another player.
On the other hand, the author gave situations where we can apply and use game
theory on games such as the Rock-Paper-Scissors.
Also, the author provided lots of
jokes at the end of the book which was quite unexpected to have in a book
tackling about or having game theory as its subject.
